NAVASHIVAPURANA
Amish Tripathi's trilogy have evoked readers to see myth through various dimensions it questions the instilled belief we all had carried and thus promotes a mental state which questions, what are we and where are we, and also the principle of existentialism.
Initially i did not like the mortal or immortal Shiva who had been asking questions over questions to his companions, i could not imagine a Shiva who knew less, but that's how he is, wonder-struck at the new myths he have been listening to.
The novel does carry philosophies that can even substitute Suryavamshies and Chandravamshies with India and Pakistan. I loved the philosophy it had tried to pass to the readers.
But at times i do forget its a fiction and have the drive to question the new myth it establishes. Who knows that the trilogy would be in future read as Ramayana and Mahabharata, and called NAVASHIVAPURANA. And Amish would be a new Valmiki or Vyasa.
Amish has done well in creating a good plot and making readers often at the tip of curiosity, they are of course page-turner books. Yet i guess that if Bal Thackerey was alive and had read the book, there is a scope of him banning the book and feeding it to fire. May his soul rest in peace, am not disturbing his soul, in fact am frightened!
NB i have finished reading now only the 1st trilogy, am in the beginning of the second, trying to read the book even after my sister had broken all the suspense of the book.

ReplyDeleteat the end of the day a novel is a novel :)
There are new writers with new themes and style of presentations coming up. In films as well as literature, India is going through its renaissance, i hope i can say so.
