Please ban more and more good movies
Watching the Malayalam film "Left Right Left" gave a doorway to some thoughts and retrospection. This film is banned.
Poor ideologists tried to suffocate and murder this splendid movie, but i believe not. There are viewers and seekers for the banned films. I don't go seeking them, but they come seeking me. I got to see in this year, the three recently banned films Midnight's Children, Papilio Buddha and Left Right Left.
Forbidden fearing the social and political stigma...i can see the potential a film has to frighten some men. Banning them simply strengthens the soul of the film. These films are also capable of imparting that spark to its viewers. Also it titillate curiosity in the film-buffs.
Midnight's Children (adaptation of Salman Rushdie's award winning masterpiece) was banned for showing some foul facets of the emergency period imposed by Late Indira Gandhi, Papilio Buddha for blazing the idol of Gandhi by the Dalits and Left Right Left for allegorically showing the assassination of the one character Kaitheril Sahadevan symbolising Pinarayi Vijayan.
I have no political stand, that itself make me in one elusive way, political.
I have a background of Communism. My paternal and maternal grandfathers were stringent communists.
When I was a child of 11 or 12 years, my paternal grandfather (maternal grandfather died before i was born) used to narrate his
(g
)olden days. He is an atheist and gave ample reasons to justify his support on evolution theories proposed by Darwin and subsides what i believed in as God. His reasons were more than enough to turn me into an atheist for few minutes, were not for long term. His theories were heavy for my brains but now i know that his preaching after tea time have made me a different person, with different sets of ideologies.
He shared some of his secrets with me. I do not understand why he chose me of all his grand children. He had said how he was jailed once, he explained his moments on 15th August of 1947, how he and his friends had celebrated Indian freedom. I always have had and still have fine ears to listen to stories and histories. He had said how he loved dogs and had one, but some Muslims killed it and then he never wanted see another suffer. When the little me said these to others, they were astonished. The real stories he shared with me and familiar to me, were all strange to them, and surprised to know this side of him.
Sorry can't jote down the secrets he said.
The communism he shared with me went out of my ears some where else, presently i found that the very little sister of mine Chunki who played games while he spoke heavy things, had stolen his words and communism to her heart. Out of all of his grandchildren, it is my younger sister Chunki aka Neema who is having left wing political views. An upcoming activist of SFI, she have managed to tense mum and dad, but i smirk, and say to myself, "that's hereditary and more over legacy".
We do talk about politics. It is nice to observe how we start with fashion, books or films and end up on politics and India. She simply labels few of my speechs as one kind of Bourgeoisie. I give a non-hilarious laugh and try to escape from those topics.
The movie also reminded me about my vision that i will end up in prison for writing honestly. I have that hunch inside me. No wonder why my father named me Sukhi after the great Aung San Suukyi. It was during the time i was born, she was a famous personality in the newspapers regarding her home arrest. Let us see if that turns out to be a irony or not.
I can say Left Right Left is a good movie, see it has not left over me even after watching it, such ought to be good movies that follow us. If i would have seen it in theatre, i would have given a standing applause. Just because i saw it on my laptop, this is all i can do to appreciate it. A film critic in me can criticise it with umpteen words.
Thank you Murali Gopi for the story , script and a mesmerizing acting. Che Guevera Roy (Murali Gopi), Kaitheri Sahadevan (Hareesh Peradi) and Vattu Jayan (Indrajith) will definitely rest in peace in the hearts of the film viewers.
Thanks a lot to the ones who banned this film, thus you made many, hunt and watch the movie.
